The Spring Festival Travel Rush

The Spring festival travel rush, also known as Chunyun, lasted from 21st January to 1st March. According to Xinhua, about 2.98 billion trips were made last year. During Chunyun, millions of Chinese working or studying out of their hometown rush back to reunite with families.
Fu Ching, a 41-year-old housewife from Hong Kong backs to her homeland Xuzhou located in Jiangsu Province. The total journey is over 1000 km. Before the high-speed rail operate, she travelled by train. Fu had to sleep in the train overnight as it travelled over 20 hours.
Fu started to take the high-speed rail these years. It saves her time as the total journey is reduced to 8 hours. This series of photo record her journey to Xuzhou.

Fu arrives Shenzhen North Railway Station at 8 a.m. in the morning.

Fu checks the ticket information online and takes the ticket by Home Return Permit.

Volunteers and staffs guide the passengers who have taken tickets to different entrances in order to manage the crowd.

Passengers have been waiting for check-in in front of the entrance for at least half hour.

Fu gets on the train and sits on a soft-seat according to the ticket number with five other passengers in the train box.

Fu goes out of Xiamen station with luggage then transfers to another train to Xuzhou.

Fu watches movies on train to kill her time as the journey is 8 hours long from Xiamen to Xuzhou.

When the train is about to arrive Xuzhou, Fu takes the luggage from the rack.

Fu says she can’t wait to see her relatives when the train arrives Xuzhou.

Xuzhou East Railway Station is the terminus of this train. Fu and other passengers get off the train.
